As the song says, “it’s the most wonderful time of the year,” and with that, TruTV has launched its new series, Santas In the Barn, which the network describes as a “holiday fantasy camp” and is designed as a competition to find America’s best santa with a $100,000 prize on the line.
To help usher in this yuletide yarn, TruTV enlisted the production services of Aardman Nathan Love and the studio’s in-house directing duo, Native to Noise, to infuse their trademark animated whimsy into the title sequence for Santas in the Barn. “Because of their strong design sensibilities, animation experience, and overall great sense of humor, Native to Noise was perfect fit for the project,” explains Aardman Nathan Love founder & executive director, Joe Burrascano. Showcasing a diverse roster of quirky, potential Santas, who are central to the show’s narrative, Aardman Nathan Love literally translates the barn theme into a quick, fun display that’s reminiscent of madcap classics like It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.
This marks the first collaboration between Aardman Nathan Love and TruTV. “They were very collaborative and open with letting us create the story based on their initial brief,” Native to Noise explains. “We really like the message of bringing diversity in the characters and reminding us of what it means to be Santa Claus. This inspired us in how we approached the story, characters and animation.” As far as the motion design process, “It was fun, exciting, and by the middle of the project we were emotionally attached to the characters we’ve developed. It’s always great to have the opportunity to brand the whole show; this gave us a holistic picture of the look and feel of the show, which can be cascaded to other mediums or collaterals. We feel fortunate to be part of something so entertaining and fun, and we hope that the viewers feel the same way.”
